July Nurse of the Month – Nerissa

Jul 27, 2022

At WESolutions, we believe our responsibilities do not end once we’ve helped an amazing nurse secure a new role. Our goal is to build long-lasting relationships that go above and beyond that. We’re committed to understanding the hopes, dreams and aspirations of the people we work with so they can build the career (and life) they want.

Our Nurse of the Month initiative is designed to highlight the journey, achievements and experiences of some of the most talented nurses we’ve had the opportunity to work with. So now, it gives us great pleasure to introduce July’s Nurse of the Month, Nerissa.

Nerissa’s Story

For as long as she can remember, Nerissa has always found happiness in helping others. It was right at the start of her studies, however, that she learned where her passion in the nursing field truly lay.

As a Registered Mental Health Nurse in Hassocks, Nerissa is loved by her patients and colleagues. We are so proud of all her achievements!

Read on for her full story.

Q: When did you realise that a career in nursing was right for you? Was there a particular moment in your life?

A: When I started my studies, I had no idea how powerful and intriguing the mind is and how often it’s overlooked. Learning the stories of patients from all walks of life, I discovered I had a particular interest in psychiatric nursing – I felt in awe of people and their strength and knew it was the right path for me.

Q: What was your journey like in securing a role through WESolutions?

A: WESolutions were with me every step of the way in my job-seeking journey. They were incredibly supportive, even when I had some doubts or felt like I wouldn’t be good enough.

Q: What advice would you give to young people considering a career in nursing?

A: I would say, GO FOR IT! Nursing is your chance to change the world, make a difference and touch the lives of others forever.

Q: Do you have any standout memories/funny/interesting stories from your career as a nurse?

A: There are so many, especially in my field! You learn a lot about a patient’s resilience when even through the challenging times, some patients are guaranteed to put a smile on your face just by their remarks and jokes. Some even put on a show to make you see that they recognise and appreciate your efforts for them.

Q: If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?

A: To read minds. This would be the ideal superpower for a psychiatric nurse like myself, so I can better understand my patients, thus ensuring perfect patient-centred care.
