December Nurse of the Month – De’Andra Frazer

Jan 05, 2022

At WESolutions, we aim to nurture the relationships we have with all the amazing nurses that we’ve helped secure a new role in the UK over these years. Since the beginning, we have been committed to understanding the aspirations and choices of the people we work with so that they can build the career (and life) of their dreams.

Our Nurse of the Month initiative is designed to highlight the journey, achievements, and experiences of some of the most hard-working nurses we have had the pleasure of assisting to identify their dream jobs. Without further ado, we would like to introduce December’s Nurse of the Month, De’Andra Frazer.

De’Andra’s Story

We are incredibly proud of De’Andra and her achievements as a Staff Nurse in Scotland. In such a short period of time, she has made her mark and become a favorite among her colleagues and patients.

Keep up the good work, and we are inspired by your great example, De’Andra!

Q: When did you realise that a career in nursing was right for you? Was there a particular moment in your life?
A: I always admired nurses and the work they do. I realised nursing was my path from a very young age and made it my dream to help others in a way that nurses do. There was no one particular moment, instead it was a combination of small moments where I saw acts of kindness by nurses that pulled me to forge ahead into this career path.

Nurses inspire, educate and advocate. They are mentors, counsellors, advisers and so much more. They go above and beyond for their patients. I knew that this was what I wanted as a career and legacy – to make a difference.

Q: What was your journey like in securing a role through WESolutions?
A: My journey of securing a role in the UK was smooth and easy, more so in this pandemic. I applied in February 2021, and by August I was in Scotland. I got the role before I did my examinations with help from the amazing WESolution team. They were all very helpful and did a great job in keeping me updated and abreast of all I needed to know and do to make this career move to the UK.

Q: What advice would you give to young people considering a career in nursing?
A: Nursing is a very rewarding career. Forge ahead and put aside all the doubts and negativity that may appear. In the end of the day, the only thing that matters is the example you leave behind for others to follow, and the love and kindness that you share with everyone.

Q: Do you have any standout memories/funny/interesting stories from your career as a nurse?
A: There are so many that it is almost impossible to choose! I remember dressing a wound once and the patient was so impressed with my skills that every time he came back for a dressing, he would ask for me and insist I tend to him. I felt so proud of myself knowing a patient feels better and at ease with me.

Remember, whatever it is that you’re doing, do your best, remain focused, be polite, and treat others how you would want to be treated.

Q: If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?
A: Slowing down time! In this profession, timing is everything. Especially in moments when a patient is at near-death and is transitioning from this life. I sometimes wish we could slow down time, so their loved ones get a chance to say their goodbyes and express what they need to before it’s too late.
